'TDN Rising Star' Separationofpowers (Candy Ride {Arg}), a jaw-dropping debut winner at the Spa July 30, is the one to beat in Sunday's GI Frizette S. at Belmont Park, a 'Win and You're In' for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. The bay dueled through a scorching early pace and had to settle for third in the GI Spinaway S. Sept. 2.

“She's been training particularly well here at Belmont,” trainer Chad Brown said. “She recovered from that grueling effort in the Spinaway. She's come out of it well and she's going to appreciate going longer. I never felt that she was a sprinter. She trains very kind in the morning.”

Critique (Midnight Lute) romped by 16 lengths to earn her diploma in style at second asking in an off-the-turfer at Saratoga Sept. 4. Trainer Todd Pletcher has won this race three times, most recently with Dreaming of Julia in 2012.

“She's a filly where we always felt like she'd appreciate more distance so that's why we entered her in the turf at Saratoga,” Pletcher said. “Both times the races came off [the turf] and we thought she performed well. We're looking forward to getting her stretched out a little bit more, so I think the mile distance should be a step in the right direction.”

Maya Malibu (Malibu Moon), a runaway debut winner at Delaware Aug. 5, took advantage of that aforementioned hot early pace in the Spinaway and rallied to finish a close second.
