Sunland Park canceled their annual GIII Sunland Derby, which offered GI Kentucky Derby qualifying points, and Sunland Oaks due to an extended quarantine caused by an outbreak of equine herpesvirus, which has now been lifted, and replaced them with this Sunland Park Festival of Racing S. for colts and the Plum Pretty S. for fillies. Despite the lack of Derby points, Bob Baffert, who won three Sunland Derbies, sends out the race favorite in Speedway Stable's Collected (City Zip). A debut winner sprinting on the turf at Santa Anita Oct. 12, the chestnut finished second in the grassy GIII Cecil B. Demille S. at Del Mar Nov. 29 and returned to winning ways when switched to the dirt for the GIII Sham S. in Arcadia Jan. 9. He was last seen finishing fourth as the favorite behind Suddenbreakingnews (Minshaft) in the GIII Southwest S. at Oaklawn Feb. 15. Todd Pletcher ships WinStar Farm's Gettysburg (Pioneerof the Nile) in from Florida to make amends for a non-factor fifth to stablemate and subsequent GII Tampa Bay Derby winner Destin (Giant's Causeway) in the GIII Sam F. Davis S. Feb. 13. The gray entered that test off a decisive wire-to-wire graduation at third asking going nine panels in Hallandale Jan. 9. Trainer Doug O'Neill owns two victories in the Sunland Derby and seeks his first in this renamed event with Reddam Racing's Found Money (Square Eddie). Opening his account with a pair of wins last spring including the Santa Anita Juvenile, the chestnut closed out last term with a win in the state-bred King Glorious S. at Los Alamitos Dec. 12 and was fourth last time in the Sham.
