Group 1 winner and sire Compton Place (GB) (Indian Ridge {GB}–Nosey {GB}, by Nebbiolo {GB}), winner of the G1 July Cup and the sire of dual G1 Nunthorpe S. victor Borderlescott (GB), has died at age 21 of colic, according to Racing Post. Compton Place underwent surgery after he was found to be suffering from colic at Whitsbury Manor Stud–where he stood for 17 seasons–but was unable to be saved after it was found a large portion of his intestine was damaged. In addition to Borderlescott, Compton Place sired 12 winners at the group level, including G2 Qipco British Champions Sprint S. winner Deacon Blues (GB); G2 Temple S. victor Pearl Secret (GB); and GII San Clemente S. winner Passified (GB).
“The loss of Compton Place will be sorely felt here at the stud by everyone who has worked with, and been around him, for so long,” Whitsbury Manor's Ed Harper told Racing Post. “You couldn't find a kinder horse to deal with and in his latter years he became less like a stallion and more like a trusted member of staff.”
