Inglis's Premier Yearling Sale, which has developed a reputation as a reliable source of black-type winners across the Southern Hemisphere and Asia, begins Sunday at the company's Oaklands complex in Melbourne and runs through Mar. 2. A total of 755 lots are catalogued, including 100 half- or full-siblings to stakes winners and the progeny of 98 stakes-winning dams.
Siblings to yearlings catalogued for Premier have won 14 stakes races over the last two months alone, and six set to go under the hammer have siblings contesting Saturday's G1 Blue Diamond S., Victoria's most important juvenile race. Lot 149 is a Savabeel (Aus) half-brother to Blue Diamond third choice Samara Dancer (NZ) (Hinchinbrook {Aus}), the winner of the G2 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude since the catalogue was printed. The colt is also a full-brother to 2013 G3 Caulfield Guineas winner Eclair Big Bang (NZ).
The Savabeel colt is one of 48 to be offered during the Blue Riband session on day one, for which the Inglis team have selected yearlings expected to excel at three and older over distances of a mile and beyond.
Swettenham Stud will offer three siblings to Blue Diamond entrants: lot 47, a Fastnet Rock (Aus) half-sister to Maribyrnong Trial S. second Kinetic Design (Aus) (Master Of Design {Aus}); lot 448, a Dash For Cash (Aus) colt who is a half to the Maribyrnong Trial winner Sweet Sherry (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) as well as a full-brother to triple group winner Arinosa (Aus); and 624, a full-sister to Listed Inglis Banner 2YO S. winner Valliano (Aus) (Equiano {Fr}).
The other siblings to Blue Diamond entrants are lot 441, an Americain half-sister to Areti (Aus) (Street Sense), who became the dam's first winner since the catalogue was printed; and lot 653, a full-brother to G3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Power Trip (Aus) (Hard Spun).
Another expected standout is Milburn Creek's Choisir (Aus) colt (lot 226) who is a close relation to world champion sprinter Starspangledbanner (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}). The colt's dam, National Anthem (Aus) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), is a half-sister to that four-time Group 1 winner and now successful young sire, and she is also a half-sister to the dam of G1 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}). This chestnut is her second foal.
Snitzel (Aus), who has already enjoyed an excellent start to the Australian yearling sale season, had a filly top this sale last year for A$560,000, and one of his 24 to go through the ring is lot 474, a half-brother to dual Group 3 winner Hi World (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and three other stakes horses. Other leading sires represented by five or more offerings include Redoute's Choice (Aus), Fastnet Rock (Aus), Sebring (Aus), High Chaparral (Ire), Not A Single Doubt (Aus), and Medaglia d'Oro. All the leading first-season sires from this year's earlier yearling sales are represented, including Pierro (Aus), All Too Hard (Aus), Animal Kingdom and Delago Deluxe (Aus).
“The Premier Yearling Sale has experienced increases year-on-year due to outstanding vendor support from across Australasia and growth in the quality of bloodstock offered at the sale,” said Inglis Victorian Manager Simon Vivian. “This season alone, 16 Premier graduates have won 19 stakes races, including three Group 1 races. With results like these it is obvious why the popularity of the Premier Sale continues to grow. We are confident the graduates of the 2016 sale will perpetuate this success.”
