Oscietra (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), the first foal out of world champion sprinter Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}), is set to return to Lindsay Park for an educational stint after disappointing trainer David Hayes in a jumpout at Flemington on Thursday, according to Racing.com.
“I was a little disappointed, she didn't do it quite right,” Hayes told the site after Oscietra finished fourth in the 800-metre heat. “We tried holding her up and she got caught out wide and slightly over-raced.”
“It was a very fast 2-year-old time, it was the A-grade 2-year-old trial of the morning, she finished off okay but I've seen her go a lot better,” Hayes added. “I think over-racing in the middle stages was to her detriment late in the trial. We will take her back to the farm, see that everything is okay and we might review where we kick-off first-up. I want to see her work like I know she can before I run her.”
Oscietra finished third on debut behind the subsequent Group 3 winner Limestone (Aus) (Helmet {Aus}) at Flemington on New Year's Day, and Hayes said he his co-trainers, son Ben Hayes and nephew Tom Dabernig, have been working on getting her to settle.
“She has been responding well except for today, she has been accepting sitting behind and running on,” Hayes told Racing.com. “Today for one reason or another she really wanted to zip along and resented being held up and it told at the finish. The plans are to get her back home, she has had the two trials here and if we are happy with her in 10 days when I give her another gallop, then we will start looking for a race.”
