There are plenty of great racing events around the globe each year, but none compares with the five days racing at Royal Ascot. Six races a day, Tuesday through Saturday, and last week the weather cooperated, always a huge plus at any racing festival. A total of 489 horses ran in the 30 races (average field size: 16.3), which consisted of 22 black-type races: seven Group 1's (three opening day, last Tuesday; one each on the subsequent four days); seven Group 2's, three Group 3's and five Listed. There were also seven Handicap races, and one Conditions Race, the closing 2 3/4-mile Queen Alexandra S. It's an entire week of fierce competition. It's the best week of racing in the world.
