Halo America Euthanized

Halo America | Laura Battles

Halo America (Waquoit–Ameriangel, by Halo), winner of the 1997 GI Apple Blossom H., was euthanized at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Facility July 7 due to declining health. She was 26. Campaigned by her breeder John Franks to four graded wins and earnings of nearly $1.5 million, the $1.45-million KEENOV '04 graduate was retired in 2014 from her breeding career at Hill 'n' Dale Farm. Before being pensioned, she produced Marino Marini (Storm Cat), a SW and GISP in Ireland, GISP in the U.S. and GSP in England; and MGSP Quick Temper (A.P. Indy). She was also responsible for the lone colt from Storm Cat's final crop in 2009. Halo America spent time at Nuckols Farm before a spot opened up at Old Friends's Georgetown farm. “Halo America wasn't with us long but it didn't take her long to make a lasting impression,” said Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen. “She was a spectacular racehorse, a successful broodmare and a kind, intelligent, beautiful old friend. Thanks to Hill 'n' Dale for trusting us to care for her and to Charles Nuckols for providing a spot for her until she could come to the main farm.”
