In her new role as senior steward of the Irish Turf Club, Meta Osborne becomes the only female to be appointed head of an international horse racing regulatory body. A vet by profession, Osborne works primarily in the field of reproduction for Kildangan Stud and succeeds Neville O'Byrne in the post.
“I think Meta will do a terrific job,” said O'Byrne. “She is a very clear thinker, forward-looking and has the good of racing and integrity at heart.”
Osborne is the daughter of the late Michael Osborne, a former advisor to Sheikh Mohammed and her brothers Joe and John are also rooted in the Irish bloodstock industry as managers of Kildangan Stud and The Irish National Stud, respectively. In addition to her profession and new responsibilities, Meta also finds the time to assist her husband Dermot Cantillon in the running of their County Laois-based Tinnakill House Stud.
“I am thrilled and honored,” said Osborne. “There are challenges, but I have a good team around me. Every organization must look at itself and what it does and ask, does it carry out its remit? It is exciting to be part of it.”
