The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust will organise the first international philanthropy forum in Hong Kong entitled “Philanthropy for Better Cities” Sept. 22 and 23 during which the main focus will be on metropolitan social issues and how philanthropic endeavours might be implemented to address them. The forum will kick off Hong Kong International Philanthropy and Social Enterprise Week and will facilitate discussion among Asia and local philanthropists and industry experts to share best practices and make possible future collaboration.
Leong Cheung, the executive director of charities and community for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, explained during a Wednesday press conference that in its role as a “dynamic and transformative philanthropic organisation,” the Club's Charities Trust attempts to seek out the root causes of social issues and teams with others to try to find solutions. The Trust aims to provide a platform to exchange ideas and establish long-term cooperative relationships, with the overall objective of building Hong Kong into a better city.
“Philanthropy for Better Cities” will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. will include “Youth and Education”, “Ageing and Health”, “Environment and Sustainability”, “Innovation and Technology” and “Private/Public Partnerships”. Over 1000 experts, speakers and delegates are expected to attend, including Michael Porter, Harvard Business School; Rip Rapson, The Kresge Foundation; Helen Goulden, Nesta; Helen Cadbury, Barrow Cadbury Trust; Laurence Lien, Asia Philanthropy Circle; and Wang Zhenyao, China Global Philanthropy Institute.
