The Hoedown at Hagyard, sponsored by Boehringer-Ingelheim and presented by the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP), will begin at 6 p.m. in the sport horse covered arena at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Saturday, Apr. 30, the RRP announced Thursday. All proceeds will go directly to support the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, a $100,000 training competition for over 500 Thoroughbreds beginning second careers in 10 riding sports, at the Kentucky Horse Park on the last weekend of October.
The event will feature live music by farrier Steve Normal's Shades of Grass Band, catering by Red State Barbecue and an open bar sponsored by Bourbon Lane Stable. Celebrity guests include Rosie Napravnik and Joe Sharp, Phillip and Evie Dutton, Graham and Anita Motion, Chris McCarron, Valerie Ashker and many Rolex riders. The North American Racing Academy will be on hand to coach guests on Equicizers, as well as Equicizer Racing, pitting Rolex riders against jockeys and exercise riders. The Hoedown at Hagyard is also supported by Patterson Veterinary Supply, Bourbon Lane Stable, Triple Crown Nutrition, and Accuhorsemat. Tickets for RRP members are $35 and for non-members $50.
“Our clients originate from both the racing and the sport horse sides of the horse industry, so Retired Racehose Project and its Thoroughbred Makeover are very important to us,” said Hagyard partner Stuart Brown, DVM. “This promises to be a wonderful evening with great folks assembled around this incredible event in the Bluegrass.”
Added RRP President Steuart Pittman, “This event is about building community. We will have Thoroughbred Makeover trainers, Rolex riders, racing industry leaders, backstretch workers, and Throughbred farm works. The common interest is the Thoroughbred horse. Celebrating to live music with barbecue and bourbon on the Hagyard hill overlooking the Kentucky Horse Park at the end of the cross-country day is about as good as it gets.”
