The second session of the Tattersalls October sale saw record numbers, as well as the sale of a 1.7 million guineas Sharmardal colt–currently the most expensive yearling sold in the world this year. It was a sad day for American racing fans yesterday as they mourned the loss of sensational champion Cigar (Palace Music), who died Tuesday from complications from neck surgery. In happier news, another filly stamped her ticket to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in yesterday's GIII Jessamine S. and a well-matched field of nine sophomore fillies was drawn for Saturday's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
