Law Leads Latinoamericano Lineup

Brazilian dual Group 1 winner Universal Law (Brz) (Christine's Outlaw) heads a strong Brazilian delegation and 10 selected foreign runners set to compete in the G1 Longines Gran Premio Asociacion Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipodromos, South America's most important weight-for-age event, Saturday at La Gavea Racecourse in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This year's 32nd renewal of the Latinoamericano, which will be run at 1 1/4 miles on the grass, marks the first return of the continental championship race to Hipodromo La Gavea in 20 years.

Universal Law, the top local hopeful, has scored twice at the highest level and over the Latinoamericano distance, including a victory in the Grande Premio ABCPCC Matias Machline, Brazil's version of the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Brazil's support cast is completed by come-from-behind multiple Group 1 winner Paint Naif (Brz) (Crimson Tide {Ire}); the multiple group-winning filly Energia Garoa (Brz) (Agnes Gold {Jpn}), capable of accelerating in the closing stages; 3-year-old Some In Tieme (Brz) (Shirocco {Ger}); and Bartholomeu (Brz) (Job Di Caroline {Brz}), both rounding into form. Brazil is responsible for nine of the 31 winners to date.

Chilean Thoroughbreds, eight-time winners of the race including three of the last six renewals, will be highly represented by 3-year-olds Rio Allipen (Chi) (Seeking the Dia), hero of the Chilean Derby; and Flyer (Chi) (Scat Daddy), the facile winner of the G2 Gran Clasico Coronacion. Hipodromo Chile Triple Crown dirt winner Incentive Boy (Arg) (Boboman) and the less fancy Porto Fino (Chi) (Dushyantor) complete the lineup for Chile.

Don Inc (Arg) (Include), runner-up in both the G1 Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby) and G1 Carlos Pellegrini, tops the Argentine delegation, also supported by Quiz Kid (Arg) (Forestry), winner of the G1 Estrellas Classic; and Harlan's Blue (Arg) (Harlan's Holiday), who captured his first stakes win over the distance on the dirt at La Plata.

Peruvian Derby winner Nieto Mireyo (Per) (Privately Held); U.S.-bred Sensacionale (Broken Bow) and Two Thousand Guineas runner-up Street Lolo (Arg) (Freud) will carry the flag for Peru, whose horses have won the multinational marquee race on nine occasions and four times as visitors, but just once on the grass at San Isidro.
