Chilean Derby winner Full of Luck (Lookin At Lucky), heads an international field of 16 runners set to compete in the G1 Longines Gran Premio Latinoamericano, South America's most important multinational event, Sunday. The top local hopeful, enters the race off a one-length victory over Group 2 winner Tinku (Lookin At Lucky) in the 1 1/2 mile G1 Clasico El Derby at Valparaiso Sporting Club Feb. 5.
Chile's support cast is led by three-time Group 1 winner Big Daddy (Grand Daddy), winner of Chile's G1 St. Leger on dirt at Hipodromo Chile, but seventh as the favorite in the Clasico El Derby behind Full of Luck and Tinku.
G1 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini winner Sixties Song (Sixties Icon), heads an Argentine delegation winless in the last 10 renewals of the multinational race. Stud Rio Dois Irmaos' Eleito (Crimson Tide) and Deep End (Wild Event), one-two finishers of the listed Clasico Escorial at Gavea Jan. 17, will carry the hopes for Brazil, a nation responsible for 10 of the 32 winners to date.
Peruvian Group 1 winners Kodiak Boy (Musseb), Paso Real (Man of Iron) and Group 1-placed winning filly Smart Choice (Grand Reward), will represent Peru; winners of nine renewals of the race and four times as visitors, but never on the grass.
Brazilian-bred Gandhi Di Job (Job Di Caroline), winner on dirt of the Gran Premio Nacional and the Gran Premio Ramirez Jan. 6 at Maronas, will carry the flag for Uruguay as that nation's lone representative.
