'Lucy' Looks to Remain Perfect in Old Hat

J.A.G Racing and Jettany Thoroughbred Corp's Lucy N Ethel (During) is two-for-two thus far in her career and the Pennsylvania-bred filly looks to annex her first stakes win in Saturday's GIII Old Hat S. at Gulfstream. The dark bay filly won first time out at Parx in a state-bred maiden over 6 1/2 furlongs Nov. 16 and crushed an open allowance there by 13 1/4 lengths Dec. 8. “She always showed she was going to be a nice filly, but I never push them too much. She's got such a good attitude,” trainer Ramon Preciado said. “This is a horse you don't have to do too much with. She trains herself. I always say, 'Nice horses train themselves.'”

Another filly looking to make her graded stakes debut is Jacks or Better Farm's Ballet Diva (Hear No Evil). A solid four-for-six in her career thus far–three of those being stakes, the chesnut debuted in May with a 12 1/4-length win here and followed suit with a victory in the local Cassidy S. July 5. Third in the restricted Desert Vixen S. Aug. 8, the chestnut returned to her winning ways in the restricted Susan's Girl S. Sept. 5 and was a disappointing sixth as the chalk in the restricted My Dear Girl S. Oct. 3. Shewas last seen comfortably winning the $75,000 House Party S. at Gulfstream Park West over six furlongs Nov. 28.

Second to Ballet Diva in the aforementioned House Party S., PTK LLC's Dad's Kiddo (Proud Citizen) comes into Saturday's contest fresh off a runner-up finish to Island Saint (Speightstown) in an optional claimer at Gulfstream Park Dec. 11. Trained by Dane Kobiskie, the bay filly's lone career victory came sprinting on a sloppy track at Indiana Grand May 26 after which she was subsequently shelved for six months prior to the House Party.
