Earle I. Mack and Adam Wachtel have acquired a controlling interest in 2-year-old 'TDN Rising Star' Chasing Aces (Flatter), it was announced Tuesday. A $40,000 KEENOV weanling, $65,000 KEESEP yearling and $225,000 Barretts March juvenile after a :20 4/5 bullet quarter-mile breeze, the chestnut finished second for Rockingham Ranch and trainer Peter Miller first out at Santa Anita June 25. He returned to air by 5 1/4 lengths over five panels in track-record time of :56.21 at Del Mar Jule 17–good for a 101 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest number received by a juvenile so far this year by a large margin. The colt, a half to overseas GSW Silver Ocean (Silver Train) and SW/MGSP Over the Ocean (Rockport Harbor), will remain in Miller's care and point to the GI Del Mar Futurity Sept. 5. “I think he's a special horse,” offered Mack. “It wasn't just the time he ran but it was also the way he did it. He's a magnificent colt with a spectacular stride. It's rare you see a 2-year-old run that kind of effort. His 101 Beyer and 4 1/4 Ragozin number make him one of the fastest 2-year-olds we've seen. Despite his obvious brilliance, we are hoping that his pedigree (being by Flatter out of a Mt. Livermore mare), and his beautiful stride will allow him to carry his speed longer distances.”
