MANIGHAR RETIRED
Manighar (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}), the 2012 New South Wales Middle Distance Horse of the Year and the first horse ever to win the Group 1 triple of the Australian Cup, Ranvet S. and BMW Cup, has been retired, according to Earle Mack, who campaigned the gelding in partnership with OTI Racing in Australia.
“We will retire Manighar, which will give us great pleasure and joy,” said Mack. “Obviously, we'll find the best home for him, where he'll be happy. We do owe him a lot. He's done so much for us in giving us thrills of a lifetime and we'll make sure that he's well looked after in any future career. He could be a hunter, he could be a jumper, or he could just go out and eat hay for the rest of his life, but he'll be well cared-for. It has been a fantastic experience for us racing him with Terry Henderson and OTI.”
Manighar began his career for his breeder, the Aga Khan, in France in 2009, when he won the G2 Prix Chaudenay and Mack and OTI acquired him in 2010 and brought him to Australia. A solid graded stakes campaigner in 2011, he took a step back in distance in 2012 and reeled off four of five group starts in 55 days.
“He is very sound,” said Mack. “In fact, there was a debate as to whether or not to retire him, but he's eight years old and it's the right thing to do.”
