February 2017 will see a new chapter begin for Greg & Jo Griffin's Lime Country Thoroughbreds. Their thoroughbred business will relocate from their current New Zealand property to Dato Tan Chin Nam's Think Big Stud in Australia's NSW. While Lime Country will continue to offer their current services of sales preparation, breaking-in, pre-training and spelling racehorses at their new base, their relocation to Australia is the next step in a business model that will see a strong focus on trading mares and weanlings at the top of the market. Lime Country's Greg Griffin said, “We are honoured that Dato Tan and his family have entrusted us with their stud and horses that will remain at the farm. We have spent the last ten years building our business in New Zealand and this is the next natural step forward for us. We already have some fantastic Australian clients who we will enjoy being closer to, and we are keen to provide our clients in NZ and Asia, and new clients from America and Europe, our services for their Australian interests, also.
These thoughts were echoed by Duncan Ramage, managing director of Think Big Stud and racing manager for Dato Tan. “Dato is delighted with this outcome after exploring his options
for the last few months,” said Ramage. “With this relationship, Dato will retain ownership of the land which is becoming more precious over time, while at 90 years of age, passing the operations of the stud itself to Greg & Jo, a young, energetic and ambitious couple, means his horses can remain at the property and continue to be cared for to the highest of standards.”
