2nd-TOK, ¥9,550,000 (US$86k), Maiden, 3yo, 1600m
Despite what might be categorized as a turf-leaning pedigree, Sheikh Mohammed's STROBOSCOPE (c, 3, Smart Strike–Glimmering {Ire}, by Sadler's Wells) has improved with a switch to the main track and was last seen finishing a very narrow runner-up over this course and distance Feb. 4 (video, gate 13). A $160K purchase by John Ferguson out of the 2015 Keeneland September sale, Stroboscope is a full-brother to turf MGSP Wave Theory and is out of a half-sister to French and Irish highweight and MG1SW Oratorio (Ire) (Danehill). Leading rider Keita Tosaki has the call. B-Fred W Hertrich III & John D Fielding (KY)

10th-KYO, ¥34,200,000 (US$307k), Alw, 3yo, 1400m
MATERA SKY (c, 3, Speightstown–Mostaqeleh, by Rahy) finished 11th, a little more than six lengths behind subsequent G2 UAE Derby runner-up Epicharis (Jpn) (Gold Allure {Jpn}) in the Feb. 19 Hyacinth S., but bounced back to register a second career victory at Hanshin Mar. 11 (video, gate 11). The $140K KEENOV weanling turned $350K KEESEP yearling is a half-brother to Nawwaar (Distorted Humor), a two-time stakes stakes winner in the UAE, and hails from the further family of champions Bahri (Riverman) and Ajina (Strawberry Road {Aus}).
