The use of on-line auctions as a means for selling horses is beginning to gain traction and following several successful sales of Siyouni (Fr) (Pivotal {GB}) shares in recent weeks we hear of another online auction taking place this time in Australia. Racing.com reports that www.bloodstockauction.com currently has several horses for sale with the timer counting down and business expected to conclude on Tuesday. Among the lots on offer is the stakes winner Pago Rock (Aus) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}). The 8-year-old is trained in partnership by David Hayes and his nephew Tom Dabernig and Hayes said, “He's been a consistent old horse that's still got more in him and I wanted to sell him while he's got plenty of racing left in him. We've decided to give it [online auction] a go and I think it might be the way of the future. We normally sell horses at a traditional sale but I just felt those sales are a long way away so I thought I'd give this a chance and if it works I'll be using it to sell more horses this way.”
Pago Rock is an eleven time winner of over A$600,000 and at the time of writing there were 49 bids placed on him, the highest being A$26,000. Also among the lots on offer are a number of broodmares and the 15-year-old stallion Kempinsky (Aus) (Danehill–Tristalov {NZ}, by Sir Tristram {GB}). The Group 2 winner has sired over a hundred individual winners and from 24 bids received was on the market for A$10,500. Bidding on both horses closes on Tuesday night.
