Owners Offer Support to Injured Rider

Members of the racing community are offering aid and well wishes to jockey Oriana Rossi, who suffered serious spinal injuries after a spill in the fifth race Wednesday at Indiana Grand.

Del Cato, managing partner of the Evansville, Indiana-based Hoosier Daddy's Stable, has announced that the stable will donate 5% of its earnings through the remainder of 2015 to help offset the jockey's medical costs. Rossi regularly rides horses in Indiana for trainer Tim Glyshaw, who trains for Cato's partnership.

“We've known her a while,” explained Cato. “She's a great kid, and she tries hard. It's just an awful tragedy and we want to help her out. Hopefully we win some races before the end of the year.”

Rossi was injured when her mount, Top Priority, was unable to avoid a stricken foe and fell on top of her.

“It's the toughest sport in the world”, said Cato. “They put a lot on the line out there.”

Hoosier Daddy's Stable has one entrant, Defer Heaven (Defer), in the third race at Indiana Grand next Tuesday, July 28. Cato noted that he intends to speak with fellow horsemen and owners in the coming days with the hope of encouraging further donations.
