Brown Panther (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}), a former winner of the G1 Palmerstown House Irish St. Leger, will be honoured with a 12-furlong listed race to be named after him scheduled for Oct. 9, announced The Curragh Monday. Bred by Michael Owen and raced by him in conjunction with Andrew Black of Chasemore Farm, Brown Panther broke down in the 2015 Irish St Leger and had to be put down.
“It was an honour to own and breed Brown Panther, said part-owner and breeder Michael Owen. “He was a wonderful horse and to lose him was heart breaking. His greatest triumph was at The Curragh, so I'd like to thank them for this tribute in his memory.”
Evan Arkwright, Commerical Manager of The Curragh added, “The race will be fitting recognition to a horse that our racegoers had great fondness and admiration for. We hope Michael will be able to attend the races to present the trophy to the owner of the winning horse.”
The Curragh's 2016 season opens Mar. 20.
