Amber Sky (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in 2014, is eyeing a return to the races after winning a jumpout at Flemington with ease on Friday, Racenet.com.au reports. The 8-year-old gelding bounced from the barriers on top and was well out in front throughout the 800-metre heat, stopping the clock in :46.77 under Katelynn Mallyon (video). Amber Sky hasn't run since finishing third in a Sha Tin handicap in March, and had been sent to Australia by owner Hung Kam Po to retire. The bay went to trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra in April, and Zahra said they thought Amber Sky was suitable to race on.
“He had a little prep when he first came to us in April but he had a few issues with his feet that we needed to work on,” Zahra told Racenet. “Our farrier Mark Cummings has done an amazing job on the horse and got him right–his feet are now spot on and the horse is sound.”
“The original plan was to find him a nice retirement home but I think he can win a nice race before then,” Zahra added. “We'll take him to Werribee for another jumpout on Monday week and then work it out from there. The owner felt he'd love the straight course here at Flemington–his form might make him a bit awkward to place but we're more than happy to have him for sure.”
