Recepta (Speightstown–Honor Bestowed, by Honor Grades), who suffered a career-ending fractured pelvis while galloping Friday morning at Saratoga, was reported by trainer Jimmy Toner to be comfortable and in stable condition at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY.

“I just spoke to the hospital and she is doing well,” the conditioner said shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday outside his Saratoga barn. “She is standing evenly on her hind legs, which is encouraging. She's smart, so she is handling everything really well.”

Campaigned by the Phillips Racing Partnership and Pam Gartin, Recepta earned her first black-type success at two in the Chelsey Flower S. at Belmont Park and added Saratoga's De La Rose S. last fall ahead of a maiden graded success in the GIII Noble Damsel S. at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old went agonizingly close to breaking through at the Grade I level, missing by a head in the 2015 GI Matriarch S. and by a flared nostril behind Dacita (Chi) (Scat Daddy) in the GI Diana S. at the upstate oval July 23.

Toner said Recepta is regularly receiving fluids to remain hydrated during her period of inactivity. The fluids will aid in the normal functioning of her internal organs.

“I'm hoping she stays there for three or four weeks,” Toner said. “She wouldn't have to stay there normally but for 10 days or two weeks to make sure she is stable, but the other side of the coin is that I want to make sure she is under 24-hour care.

He added, “The first 30 days are very crucial [to her recovery],” he added. “At that point everything starts to fuse and then basically it is stall rest after that, but we want to monitor her very closely to make sure she doesn't dehydrate and that she is putting weight on her hind legs.”
