Willie Mullins sent a strong team of four horses to Australia for Melbourne's Spring Carnival but that team has been depleted by one following the news that Riven Light (Ire) (Raven's Pass) sustained a potential career ending injury when finishing seventh in the G1 Caulfield S. on Saturday. “He's fractured an off fore joint and it's a premature end to his Australian journey,” Mullins told The Irish Independent. “I knew there was something wrong as when he was pulled out by the rider [Glen Boss], he weakened quickly, having been holding his position easily. We'll see about his future – it's going to require screws and an operation.” Riven Light had been purchased by Mullins for leading jumps owner Rich Ricci out of the French stable of Carlos Laffon-Parias. Having failed to scale the ranks as expected over hurdles last winter Riven Light reverted to the flat with great success earlier this summer. He posted a major handicap win at Galway in August before winning a listed race at Listowel in September. Mullins had planned to let the 5-year-old take his chance against Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the G1 Cox Plate Oct. 28. but his racing career is now obviously uncertain.
