With a large field of 16 plus four emergencies to run in the G1 Myer Classic (1600m), the field surprisingly contains just the lone 3-year-old in the Anthony Freedman-trained Shoals (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}). A winner of her first four starts, three at black-type level, followed up by two recent second-placed efforts from just six career starts, the filly was unable to hold off the late charge of G1 VRC Oaks favourite Aloisia (NZ) (Azamour {Ire}) in the G1 Thousand Guineas last start over the 1600m at Caulfield.
With only 50kgs on her back, jockey Dean Yendall should be able to give his mount a dream run and look to record back to back wins in the race, having won 12 months prior on I Am A Star (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}), who is herself set to contest the race again on Saturday.
Surprisingly the only last start winner in the race, Global Glamour (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}) comes into the race off the back of victory in the G2 Tristarc S. (1400m) on Oct. 21 and jockey Tim Clark should be able to get the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare straight into the box position from barrier three.
Stablemate of the mare, the Group 2-winning Prompt Return (Aus) (Beneteau {Aus}), is another capable of going forward in the run. Third behind Quillate (Aus) (Bramshaw {Aus}) in the G3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) on Oct. 18, Prompt Response should appreciate her slight drop in weight and be right in the finish.
Second at her two most recent starts both over 1600m, Tye Angland's mount Flying Jess (Aus) (Hinchinbrook {Aus}) is yet to taste success at Flemington, but is arguably in career-best form, and it would be wrong to ignore a mare who is racing in a great vein of form.
While the official record shows that Group 1 winner Foxplay (Aus) (Foxwedge {Aus}) finished seventh last start behind Global Glamour, she was beaten less than two lengths in a performance that suggested she didn't appreciate the drop back to 1400m off the back of two extremely positive 1600m efforts.
A Group 1 winner of the William Reid in March, 5-year-old mare Silent Sedition (Aus) (War Chant) has recorded two very pleasing fifth-placed efforts at her two runs this time in, and now at the 1600m third up, the Andrew Noblet-trained mare is ready to peak.
Both disadvantaged by the drop back in trip to 1200m last start after fighting out the finish over 1600m the start prior in the G3 Angst S. on Oct. 7, Ron Quinton's pair of Dixie Blossoms (Aus) (Street Sense {USA}) and Daysee Doom (Aus) (Domesday {Aus}) have been set for this race all campaign with the former holding a slight advantage.
