TDN's Steve Sherack and Brian DiDonato will give their best bet of the day for every Friday, Saturday and Sunday card of the Saratoga meet, and bet $50 Win/Place on their selection. In the case of a scratch, an alternate pick will be posted on twitter. The handicapper who has accrued the biggest bankroll through Sept. 3 wins.
SS: Saturday's Result – Teletap was a bit chilly on the board and never factored in the outcome.Total: $890.
Sunday, Race 2, Msw – Thunderon the Nile is a very intriguing firster that can offer some value here. Her dam Thunderdoll (Thunder Gulch) won first out going the about a mile distance over the Fair Grounds lawn and has also produced a 2-year-old dirt debut winner at Indiana Downs. Thunderon the Nile, a $180,000 KEESEP yearling, worked four furlongs around the dogs in a very solid :48 3/5 (11/55) over the Oklahoma turf Aug. 5 and trainer Brad Cox has tremendous numbers with his first-time starters and first-time grass runners. Everything that Cox is sending to the track at this meet has been live thus far and this comes off the heels of a very good stand in 2015, saddling four winners from 13 starters, including a 5-1 juvenile debut winner going two turns on grass. Selection: #6 Thunderon the Nile (8-1).
BD: Saturday's Result – Rockshaw took some nibbles, looked good before the race and showed some speed from the outside, but ultimately wasn't good enough… And, of course, Oscar Party–who I picked earlier in the Showdown–came back and absolutely romped later on the card. I'm coming under a ride here a bit as we turn for home, but luckily the whip is out on Sherack too. Total: $1350.
Sunday, Race 8, GII Lake Placid S. – It's probably not the smartest idea to go against unbeaten-on-grass Catch a Glimpse–especially with the type of pace edge she appears to have here–but I can't help but give Diamond Fields (Ire) another chance off that opening day debacle. I really liked the European invader in the GII Lake George (click here for July 22 Showdown at the Spa), and thought she looked to have lots of run left from the pocket turning for home. Bottled up at the top of the lane, however, her saddle slipped, causing pilot Junior Alvarado to stop riding and then lose his irons (video). There's obviously no way to know where Diamond Fields would've finished if able to actually run in the stretch, but I'm going to keep the faith at what figures to be a much better price than what she went off at last time. Selection: #7 Diamond Fields (6-1).
Tune in each race day from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for Saratoga Live, available on Fox Sports 2 (channel finder), MSG+ (channel finder) and Altitude (channel finder).
