Group 1 winners Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}), Goldream (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and Krypton Factor (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) will go into battle in a competitive renewal of the G3 Meydan Sprint, the local prep for the G1 Al Quoz Sprint Mar. 26.
With the age range of the 11 contenders stretching from four to 10 there are some popular names listed for the five-furlong contest, none more so than Sabena Power's 9-year-old gelding Sole Power, the winner of 12 of his 54 starts, including last season's G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night.
He was well down the field in the Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye last October, however, which was won by the Robert Cowell-trained Goldream and also featured Mirza (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and Stepper Point (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}), both of whom reoppose today.
Jeremy Gask's stable star Medicean Man (GB) (Medicean {GB}) has become a standing dish in Dubai each winter, this being his fourth consecutive trip to the Gulf. Gask, who has just completing moving his string from Wiltshire to Ken Cunningham Brown's Danebury Stables in Hampshire, said of the durable veteran, “We took him over to Dubai fairly early this time and the plan was to have two or three runs under our belt by now but he picked up a little bug so we had to back off him and wait. He probably needed the run last time but I'm happy with how he's come out of the race. We've no firm plans about where we go from here. I'd want to see him run very well on Saturday to get an invitation for Dubai World Cup night–that's our hope. He loves it out in Dubai and always seems to come good while he's there.”
One of two Godolphin runners, Jungle Cat (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}), comes into the race having won on his seasonal debut for Charlie Appleby over six furlongs at the end of January, while Sir Maximilian (Ire) (Royal Applause {GB}) is an even more recent winner over course and distance on Feb. 18 for Ian Williams.
