Star' Stretches Legs at Churchill

Ken and Sarah Ramsey's International Star (Fusaichi Pegasus), leader in the GI Kentucky Derby points standings thanks to his wins in the GIII Lecomte S., GII Risen Star S. and GII Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds, stretched his legs over the Churchill Downs main track Saturday, covering five furlongs in an easy 1:01.80 (35/60) under regular pilot Miguel Mena.

The bay's internal splits were :12.40, :25 and :37.20 with a six-furlong gallop out in 1:15 flat.

“It was a pretty routine work for him,” trainer Mike Maker said. “We were looking for a strong gallop-out and he gave it to us.” He added, “I think it's an outstanding Derby. One trait about him is he's going to give you 120%. Whether that's good enough or not, we don't know.”
