Summer Revolution to Stretch Out

Summer Revolution | Adam Coglianese

Summer Revolution (Summer Bird), who suffered the first loss of his young career when a solid fourth behind 'TDN Rising Star' Drefong (Gio Ponti) in the GI Ketel One King's Bishop S. Aug. 27, will try a route of ground for the first time in the GI Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing in suburban Philadelphia Sept. 24.

“He came out of the race very good, so I'm going to take it easy with him,” he said. “He looks very good, very happy. I thought he ran a good race considering the race he ran before was a huge race. We're going to take a look at the Pennsylvania Derby. I think he can stretch out. We're going to take each race as it comes and hopefully he'll run good over there.”

Summer Revolution returned $30 to his backers when romping by 7 1/4 lengths at first asking at Belmont Park on Independence Day and proved that effort was no fluke with a smart three-length allowance success at Saratoga Aug. 6. After briefly flirting with the idea of a start in the GI Travers S., trainer Rudy Rodriguez and owner Jeff Drown elected the King's Bishop and the colt attended the modest early pace before staying on well to be fourth, beaten four lengths.

“Right now I don't have any regrets about running him,” Rodriguez offered. “He looks like he came back good; the only regret is that we didn't win the race,” Rodriguez said. “The winner ran a big race. I don't think he embarrassed himself. He got a little tired. For a minute it looked like we were going to be second, but he ran good.”

A $40,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $90,000 OBS April juvenile, Summer Revolution has earned $126,000 to date.
