Two-time Grade I winner Swept Overboard (End Sweep–Sheer Ice, by Cutlass) has passed away in Japan. The Breeders' Stallion Station resident was 20. Bred by the late Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. in Florida and sold to Narvick International during the 1999 OBSFEB sale for $525,000, Swept Overboard brought $700,000 by John Paul Reddam during the 2000 BARJUL sale as a G3 San Miguel S. winner from his first six starts.
Trained by Craig Dollase in his remaining 14 appearances, the grey was first past the post eight times in total, winning the 2001 GI Ancient Title Breeders' Cup H. and 2002 GI Metropolitan H. The latter was the only time the Florida-bred was tried at a mile, with the rest of his starts taking place over seven furlongs or less. All told, Swept Overboard earned $1,137,767. Sold to Japan to begin his stallion career in 2002, he has sired eight stakes winners from 961 foals. His best runner has been two-time G1 Nakayama Sprinter S. hero Red Falx (Jpn), while Grade II winner Florentino (Jpn) and Group 3 winners Pas de Trois (Jpn) and Urban Street (Jpn) also number among his stakes winners.
