Twilight Eclipse Breezes for Sword Dancer
West Point Thoroughbreds’ Twilight Eclipse (Purim) worked five panels in 1:03.87 Sunday over the Saratoga main track under foggy conditions in preparation for a start in the Aug. 29 GI Sword Dancer Invitational. Winner of the GI Man o’ War S. at Belmont May 5, the Tom Albertrani trainee recently finished seventh in the GI Knob Creek Manhattan S. there June 6 and rounded out the GI United Nations S. trifecta at Monmouth July 5. “He looked good the first eighth of a mile, until we couldn’t see him any longer in the fog,” Albertrani said. “He galloped out good and came back well, so it looks like he’s ready to go. In the United Nations, he found himself in a spot where he was trapped throughout the race. He never really got a good run out of it, but he still finished third. I thought he could have been a little closer if he had a better trip. At least I know he shows up every time. He’s very consistent and a great horse to have around. A mile and a half to a mile and three-eighths seem to be his best [distance]. He ran well [when third in the Sword Dancer] last year and hopefully he’ll put in his same run as he’s always done. He’s been right there in every race. We just have to get a little bit lucky.”
