Victor's Cry (Street Cry {Ire}–Short Time, by Clever Trick), a winner of the 2010 GI Shoemaker Mile S., has been sold and will stand at Arven and Jay Holden's Holden Farm in Greenfield, Indiana. Also a winner of the GII Citation H. at Hollywood Park that same year and runner-up in the GI Eddie Read S., the 11-year-old stallion set a Del Mar track record for 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.82 in 2008. Third in the 2011 Shoemaker, Victor's Cry retired with a mark of 24-6-3-4 and $762,021.
“The horse came up for sale and he was a good match for everything we have,” Arv Holden told the TDN when reached by phone Tuesday. “Somehow or other I lucked out and had enough money to buy him.”
Holden, who runs the farm with his son and co-owner Jay, who is also a trainer, was attracted to Victor's Cry due to his speed and feels the son of Street Cry will be a good fit for their 50-strong broodmare band.
“Plus he's a Street Cry,” Holden continued. “Street Cry pretty much worked on anything. I think Victor's Cry will really work for our program. He's a lightning fast horse. He set a track record at Del Mar for 6 1/2 furlongs.”
Victor's Cry went to stud in 2012 and originally stood at Park Stud in Canada for owner Spendthrift Farm, before moving for the 2016 breeding season to Spendthrift's Kentucky headquarters. As a stallion who participated in the 'Share the Upside' program for Spendthrift, all breeders who invested in Victor's Cry will be able to utilize the stallion for the same terms. He will stand at Holden Farm for $10,000 in 2017.
