With just 17 GI Kentucky Derby points up for grabs, Saturday's GIII Stonestreet Lexington S. at Keeneland, featuring a field of 10, will not impact the field at Churchill Downs on the First Saturday in May. It could, however, factor into the second leg of the Triple Crown held two weeks later at Pimlico May 20.
Gary and Mary West's West Coast (Flatter), a $425,000 KEESEP yearling, gets the nod on the morning line at 3-1 after earning his diploma over just two rivals at this distance in his second career start at Santa Anita Mar. 12. Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, also responsible for last year's Lexington winner Collected (City Zip), puts the blinkers back on West Coast for this.
Time to Travel (Hard Spun) returns on short notice after airing in a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Gulfstream Apr. 1, good for 'TDN Rising Star' honors. The Garland Williamson homebred has since been transferred from Rachel Halden to Michael Matz in the interim.
No Dozing (Union Rags), a better-than-it-looked fourth in last October's GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland, seeks to get back on track following a pair of disappointing efforts at Tampa this term, including a fourth-place finish in the GII Tampa Bay Derby Mar. 11.
