The following is part of a series in which we have posed the question above to a number of racing industry participants. The only rule is that you cannot choose your own boss.
MICHEL ZEROLO, President, Oceanic Bloodstock: Bobby Frankel
He was a fascinating and exceptional horse trainer, with a very very interesting start to his career. He was a gambler who went on to be a hotwalker for a brief period of time before going out on his own with a lone filly he bought from Allen Jerkens. The gambling angle made him a sensational handicapper of his competition and he ended up, in my opinion, being the best trainer in North America. It turns out after his passing, he would also go on to become the best trainer of the best trainers. He had a way of getting into a horse's mind. He couldn't always explain to you what he was doing, but he had an instinct. Whenever he told you something was going to happen, it inevitably happened. He very seldom got it wrong. More than anything, he absolutely loved his horses.
