Yankee Rose Loses Flight Second

Yankee Rose | Sharon Chapman

Three-year-old filly Yankee Rose (Aus) (All American {Aus}) has been disqualified from her second-place finish in last October's G1 Flight S. after testing positive for the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Ketorolac, according to Racing.com. Trainer David Vandyke has also been fined A$25,000 after being found guilty on two charges: causing to administer Ketorolac, and presenting the filly to race with the substance in her system. Racing.com reports that Vandyke had instructed veterinarian David Garth to administer the drug to all four of Yankee Rose's fetlock joints at 3 p.m. on Sept. 23–eight days out from the race–when she returned from a morning trial with moderate swelling in her near fetlock joint. Yankee Rose reportedly missed no work, and has had the fetlock condition through her entire career. Dr. Garth was also charged and fined A$15,000. Yankee Rose won the G1 Spring Champion S. a week after the Flight and was third two weeks later in the G1 Cox Plate.
